Forest Defenders Campaign Launch (Indonesia: 2007)
Greenpeace activists Bustar Maitar and Hapsoro display a copy of the Guinness Book of Records claiming Indonesia has earned the dubious title of world record holder for the fastest forest destroyer on the planet. Indonesian forest destruction is particularly high. According to a Greenpeace analysis of newly published UN figures, Indonesia destroys about 51 square km of forests every day which is equivalent to 300 football fields every hour. Greenpeace launches the Forest Defenders campaign, using actions and a petition to raise awareness about the environmental implications of logging in the country.
