Forest fires in Central Kalimantan - Clipreel
Greenpeace traveled to Central Kalimantan with two members of the famous Indonesian rock band Boomerang, to document the impact of fires on the province’s residents, forests and wildlife. In one location near the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Sanctuary west of Palangkaraya, they found burned peatland and forest remains, planted with oil palm seedlings. The most recent public maps, several years old, do not indicate any oil palm concession has been granted there. Unless government ensures that all company land tenure is available for public scrutiny, those profiting from fires cannot be held accountable.
