Fukushima Evacuee Visits Orchard

Miyoko Watanabe visits her orchard where she used to harvest organic fruits. The disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant forced Miyoko, her husband and her granddaughter to evacuate to a small apartment in centre of Tamura City and to stop farming. The orchard is located in the evacuation zone 20-30km from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear plant. It is expected that part of Tamura City in the 20km evacuation zone will be the first community where the government lifts its evacuation order as decontamination by the government is finished.

Fukushima Evacuees Return Home to Tamura City

Two years an half after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster it is predicted that Tamura City will be the first city where the evacuation order is released. Decontamination under the direct control of government ended within 20km zone of Tamura city in June 2013, and it is decided to conduct a post-monitoring and consideration of re-decontamination based on the post-monitoring results by local government and country with the cooperation.
