Funeral for Coal in Candiota, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil
Along with a tombstone, a coffin and the message "No more dirty energy", Greenpeace activists symbolize a funeral for coal in front of Presidente Médici Coal-Fired Power Plant, or Candiota II, at 400km from Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul state, in Brazil. The protest aims the presence of coal in the A-6 energy auction from the Brazilian Ministry of Energy, and asks for the end of the dirty energy by 2030. Of the 59 GW registered for the auction, half (29,5 GW) comes from fossil fuels, and two coal-fired power plants are in the South region of Brazil - in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
