Greenpeace demands the local authorities to tighten up their controls of cargoes that are bringing in 'double layer cargoes', ships that are carrying contaminated soya underneath a top layer of GE-free soya.Locations:Alpine Countries-Ancona-ItalyDate:17 May, 2004Credit:© Greenpeace / Andrea GuermaniMaximum size:1648px X 2464pxKeywords:Access blockade actions-Action preparations-Actions and protests-Banners-Day-Genetic engineering-Greenpeace activists-Harbours-Helmets-KWCI (GPI)-Outdoors-SAGE (campaign title)-Three people-WallsShoot:GE Actions in Harbours in ItalySeventy Greenpeace activists cordoned off the area of two companies, Docks Cereal and Eurodocks and displayed banners declaring 'Europe says no to GMOs' and 'No to GE Food'. They uncovered thousands of tonnes of Genetically Engineered (GE) soya in warehouses in the Italian port of Ravenna, Chioggia and Ancona. Recent samples taken from one of the warehouses have proven to be GE positive. Activists from Italy, Spain, Austria, Finland, Denmark and Norway were preventing any GE soya from leaving the facility and were taking further samples.
