Genetic Engineering Action at GATT in Geneva
Greenpeace activists climbed the roof of the GATT building in Geneva and unrolled a banner reading ’No Patents on Life’. GATT, The General Agreement of Tariffs and Trades, intends allowing patents for genetically engineered plants and animals. Via backdoors of the GATT the Chemical and Biotechnical Industry tries to obtain patents for all kinds of life-forms. With this action Greenpeace tries to prevent a GATT-astrophe, to increase public attention to this scandalous procedure and to encourage people to speak up against patents on life.
