Gray Wolf in Canadian Boreal Forest
Wild gray wolf (Canis lupus) in Canada.
These social animals hunt alone, in pairs, and in packs, taking down animals as large as moose, but still eating creatures as small as frogs and large insects. By stopping moose, deer and elk populations from growing too large, the grey wolf is attributed with a large role in keeping the ecosystem in balance. Their sophisticated communication takes place through producing scents, body postures, facial features, and vocalizations such as their distinctive howls. They can be found not only in Canada and the United States, but also in Europe and Asia.
