Statistics show that 80 per-cent are green, 15 per-cent hawksbill and 5 per-cent olive ridley. The creatures are caught mainly in gill nets in the South China Sea and eggs and hatchling are poached from the Spratly Islands. Turtle poaching in Asia is growing as the demand for meat and shell products increases.
