Because the lake is shallow, water temperature rises quickly and dissolved oxygen levels in the water reduce drastically, robbing the fish of oxygen. Algae blooms begin to spawn, which also play a part in reducing the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.Locations:North America-United States of America-Washington, D.C.Date:16 Aug, 2016Credit:© Livia Ferguson / GreenpeaceMaximum size:2672px X 4023pxKeywords:Climate (campaign title)-Climate change-Climate change impacts-Death-Destruction-Evening-Fish-Hot-KWCI (GPI)-Lakes-Monuments-Nature-Outdoors-Summer-Washington Monument-Water-WeatherShoot:Heatwave in Washington DCWashington DC has experienced oppressive heat and humidity this summer, with temperatures in the high 90's and heat indexes past 100 degrees. However, despite the uncomfortable heat, tourists and residents of DC have been spending a lot of time outside, finding ways to stay cool. This hot summer has also impacted local wildlife. Because of such high temperatures, fish living in the lake of Constitution Gardens of the National Mall have died, resulting in an unappealing smell but a feast for birds and other creatures.
