The camp occupies 50 hectares within the Cedro ranch, an estate covering a total area of almost 15,000 hectares. Occupations produce conflicts with local ranch owners, who have joined forces and hired private armed guards to intimidate the landless farmers and destroy their crops. Since 1996 more than 271 rural workers and leaders have been killed in Pará alone as consequence of the land conflict with ranch owners.Locations:Brazil-Maraba-Para-South AmericaDate:18 Jul, 2016Credit:© Tommaso Protti / GreenpeaceMaximum size:6000px X 4000pxKeywords:Camps-Day-Forests (campaign title)-KWCI (GPI)-Outdoors-Rainforests-VillagesShoot:Rural Communities and Land Conflicts in Para State, BrazilVarious images of rural communities in Pará, the Brazilian state where the land conflict is most violent.Since 1996 more than 271 rural workers and leaders have been killed in Pará alone as consequence of the land conflict with ranch owners.
