Bulldozers, Wichi Community and Illegal Deforestation at Cuchuy Farm in Argentina

Following a complaint filed by Greenpeace for the clearings in the Cuchuy farm in the north Argentina, the national Ministry of Environment cancelled clearing permissions in areas protected by the Forest Law: almost 150 thousand hectares (370 thousand acres), seven times the area of Buenos Aires city. The local Salta government ordered Alejandro Braun Peña, farm owner and cousin of the president's Chief of Staff, to stop the bulldozers.
Greenpeace had denounced the case in 2014 and stopped the clearing for a month until the activists were arrested.
Since last December, nearly 900 hectares of native forests were destroyed. Greenpeace activists documented and stopped the operation of the machines.
