Installing a Solar Pump in China

Maojiacun Reservoir, Huize County. Greenpeace staff and Shunping Yang hold a water hose powered by a solar energy pump. The solar pump was installed on the severely drought hit reservoir, mainly to help farmer Puqing Tang to irrigate his vegetable field by pumping mountain spring water.

Drought in Yunnan

In the fall of 2009, severe drought hit southern China, causing drinking water shortage in the area. In March and April 2010, Greenpeace helped setting up water pumps powered by solar energy for some villagers in the Yunnan Province.
The drought is another chilling reminder of what climate change has in store for the whole globe unless we revolutionize the way we make and use energy.
