This street is almost totally abandoned because radiation-levels are so high. Muslumovo was contaminated with radio-active material from 1947 until 1954, when the Mayak Chemical Nuclear Complex dumped their radioactive waste in the Techa River which flows through it. Techa River is still highly radio-active and it is forbidden to swim, or drink from the river or grow vegetables at the banks. The village was never evacuated and most of its inhabitants are sick because of the radiation.Locations:Chelyabinsk Oblast-Muslyumovo-Russia-SiberiaDate:1 Jan, 2000Credit:© Greenpeace / Robert KnothMaximum size:5307px X 3598pxKeywords:Birds-KWCI (GPI)-Nuclear (campaign title)-Nuclear waste-Radiation victims-VictimsShoot:Mayak Victims Documentation 2000Radiation victims of the Mayak Nuclear Explosion in Russia.Related Collections:Mayak Radiation Victims Documentation (Photos & Videos)
