The island of Rongelap was used for USA nuclear tests from 1946-1958 and was hit by nuclear fallout. Many adults and children suffered from diseases related to the nuclear tests. The crew of the Rainbow Warrior took adults, children and 100 tonnes of belongings onboard to the island of Mejato, 14 hrs sailing from Rongelap.
