Larissa Kaplun Portrait - Chernobyl Victims Documentation (Ukraine and Belarus)
Larissa Kaplun (1956) worked in Chernobyl on the night of the accident. After her evacuation to Kiev she was called back to Chernobyl in June and continued working there until 1989. Both her hip bones were damaged by Strontium 90 and they had to be replaced. Chernobyl in the Ukraine became the site of the most infamous nuclear disaster accident of all. In 1986 the explosion of the nuclear reactor affected the lives of millions in Western Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine. Both countries have plans to build new reactors to export energy to Europe.
