Luebeck City Forest Documentation in Germany
Photo documentation in Luebeck's city forest in the late summer of 2019. The city forest in Luebeck is an example of natural forest and is regarded as a model worldwide.
In 2019, large parts of forests in Germany suffered from the effects of global warming. Drought, fires and insect infestation destroyed huge areas. While the extent of the destruction in plantation forests and monocultures was devastating, the semi-natural city forest in Luebeck remained largely unscathed. Greenpeace demands from the German government a change of direction to save the forests in Germany: away from the intensive timber industry and artificial forestry, to a natural and resistant forests. The survival of the forests is essential, because as natural CO2 storage, they are our closest allies in the fight against the climate crisis.
