Mediterranean Oil Spill off Coast of Israel - Beach Clean-up
The disaster on 17 February washed up vast quantities of tar balls from crude oil over 170 km (106 miles), of shoreline, approximately 40% of Israel’s Mediterranean coast. Animals including birds and sea turtles were covered with tar.
The dead body of a 17-metre young fin whale also washed up but there was no early indication that its death and the oil spill were connected.
