Ms Sadako Monma
Ms Sadako Monma is the head of Soramame, a small nursery school in Watari, a suburb of Fukushima City. The school’s playground and the area surrounding it were too contaminated for children to play safely, so parents and the local community worked together to decontaminate it as best they could. They moved one part of the school, a wooden building, closer to the main street, but contamination remains a problem. Most children no longer attend the nursery, and Ms Monma is planning to move the nursery altogether to a less contaminated part of town.
