Authorities stopped the activists and the ship was allowed to pass. The Atlantic Osprey is scheduled to transport 4.8 tons of radioactive waste, including 1.2 kg of extremely toxic “super weapons grade plutonium”, from Studsvik to Sellafield nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in the United Kingdom. Greenpeace is calling on the Swedish government to stop the transport of the dangerous cargo to the UK, and to find a safer, more responsible solution.Locations:Europe-Scandinavia-Studsvik nuclear research reactor-Sweden-Västra GötalandDate:1 Oct, 2007Credit:© Greenpeace / Christian AslundMaximum size:1569px X 2362pxKeywords:Access blockade actions-Actions and protests-Banners-Day-Flags-Greenpeace activists-Inflatables (boats)-KWCI (GPI)-Nuclear (campaign title)-Nuclear energy symbol-Nuclear waste transports-Outdoors-Plutonium-Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing Plant-Three peopleShoot:Nuclear Action against Radioactive Waste Dumped at SellafieldGreenpeace activists campaign at Studsvik in Sweden and Sellafield in the United Kingdom, against the transportation of nuclear waste to Sellafield fuel reprocessing plant. A cargo vessel named the Atlantic Osprey is to transport 4.8 tons of radio active waste, including 1.2 kg extremely toxic super weapons grade plutonium, to Sellafield. Since all of the materials are not going to be returned to Sweden after reprocessing, the transport is in clear violation of Swedish law. Sweden is essentially dumping nuclear waste in England.
