Greenpeace delivers 50,000 signatures to Wouter Bos, negotiator for the Dutch political party PvdA, before the formation meeting for a new government. These signatures are a reaction to the decision of the previous government to keep the nuclear power plant Borssele operational after 2003. More than 50,000 people call on Prime Minister Balkenende to reconsider this decision. They also want that PvdA keeps its election promise to close Borssele at the end of 2003. Greenpeace urges Wouter Bos to take the vote of the Dutch people to the negotiations. Tonight the closing of Borssele will be discussed. More than 50,000 signed in the Choose Positive Energy-Reject Negative Energy campaign for the closing of Borssele and for investment in sustainable energy. Nuclear energy is disastrous for the environment, because nuclear waste remains highly dangerous for 240,000 years and the reprocessing in France causes unacceptable pollution in the North Sea. The nuclear reprocessing is devastating for the environment and proliferation.
