Observation station of Laohugou Glacier No. 12, Qilian Mountains, Gansu, China
Laohugou Glacier No. 12 is the largest glacier in the Qilian Mountains. Water from Laohugu and other glaciers in the Qilian Mountains irrigates the Hexi Corridor and was fundamental to the development of oasis cities along the Northern Silk Road. Between 2006 and 2018, it retreated by an average of 13.1 meters/year.

受气候变化全球升温的影响,自20世纪90年代以来中国冰川呈现出全面、加速退缩的趋势。未来几十年,占中国冰川总数80%以上的面积小于1平方公里的小冰川将面临消失风险,中国冰川数量将急剧减少。
2018年夏季,绿色和平“中国冰川与气候变化影响项目”与甘肃省科学院地质自然灾害防治研究所合作,前往中国西部的几条冰川进行实地调研,考察发现气候变化影响下中国西部冰川加速消融趋势明显。冰川消融将进一步加剧的下游的水资源危机,短期内冰川灾害将频频发生…中国冰川已面临失稳危机!
