But a new study by Dschang University, in collaboration with the University of Göttingen and supported by Greenpeace International, SAVE Wildlife and WWF Germany has found that claim to be a severe misrepresentation. The forests in the project zone is still largely intact and is located in between four protected areas, including the iconic Korup National Park, and therefore acts as a vital corridor for the local wildlife.Locations:Africa-CameroonDate:29 Jul, 2013Credit:© Jan-Joseph Stok / GreenpeaceLatitude:5°9'20.3"NMaximum size:5616px X 3744pxLongitude9°24'29.6"EKeywords:Aerial view-Agriculture-Day-Deforestation-Forests (campaign title)-Herakles Farms-KWCI (GPI)-Landscapes-Oil palm (plants)-Outdoors-Palm oil (product)-Plantations-Tractors-Trees-Tropical rainforestsShoot:Herakles Farms Oil Palm Nursery in CameroonImages of the oil palm nursery managed by Herakles Farms.Herakles Farms has previously claimed its project in the South West Region of the country would convert an area of little conservation value. The study found the area to be home to not only the chimpanzee, but also the forest elephant, rare primates such as the endangered drill and the critically endangered Preuss’s red colobus monkey, plus a number of fish species, many endemic to the region.Related Collections:Chimpanzees and Gorillas in African ForestsLicence to Launder: Herakles Farms' Illegal Timber Trade Threatens Cameroon's ForestsCameroonian Forest & Communities Threatened By US Company (All Photographers)Chimpanzee Habitat Endangered By Palm Oil Project (All Photographers)
