Orangutan Habitat in Gunung Palung National Park in West Kalimantan
Gunung Palung National Park is a protected area and natural habitat for the orangutan in West Kalimantan.
In 2015 when the forest fires disaster burned parts of the endangered primate’s habitat close to palm oil concession in West Kalimantan, many orangutan which became fire victims, were released in the Gunung Palung area.
Gunung Palung is now also a research area for the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program operated by Yayasan Palung. A Greenpeace team goes on a journey in this forest to document the orangutan in their wild habitat.
