Painting Action outside the Ministry of Environment and Food in Denmark
38 Greenpeace activists paint dead piglets outside the Environment and Food Ministry to send a message to Minister Esben Lunde Larsen (V) to cut down on Denmark's extensive meat production. He has to work for less meat and more green. Denmark is one of the world's largest producers of pork and as a country with high meat production, agriculture puts the environment, animal welfare and the climate under pressure. The pigs and cows account for 18.2 percent of Denmark's total greenhouse gas emissions. On average, Danish agriculture destroys 1,000 piglets per hour as a direct consequence of the pork stock being produced for intensive large-scale operations. A Danish developer, on average, receives 18 piglets per litter, but is only created to support approximately ca. 12, and among other things, therefore, every fifth piglet dies before it becomes 4 weeks old.
