This will mean that rivers which depend on the mountain flow will gradually decrease over time. The river Ganges is at risk from glacier retreat and it's source, the Gangotri glacier is already showing signs of melting. Millions of people depend on the Ganges for drinking water and it is culturally significant as the waters here are considered holy.
