Plastic Waste Dump in Adana, Turkey (Photos)
Upon the restrictions declared by China, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand on plastics, Turkey has become the plastics dump of Europe.
Britain, Italy, Belgium, Germany and France are the main countries that send their wastes to Turkey. Most of the imported plastic waste is dumped into nature or burned in Adana.
In this area, near Tuzla and Akayatan lagoons, important wetlands in Turkey, plastic wastes are dumped and sometimes burned on the ground. The waste significantly pollutes aquatic and terrestrial life and the atmosphere.
