MY Arctic Sunrise Gulf Oil Expedition
A Greenpeace crew with several teams of independent scientists are on-board the Arctic Sunrise in the Gulf of Mexico for three months, to conduct a series of scientific research programs that will further understanding of the impacts of both oil and chemical dispersants on the Gulf ecosystem. A BP leased drilling platform exploded April 20, 2010, killing 11 workers and causing a leak of millions of barrels of oil from a wellhead one mile deep 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana. Finally capped in August, the leak was treated with a million gallons of Corexit, a toxic dispersant.
