Just in front of the town hall activists construct a tall chimney, from which visible smoke is coming out, to imitate the planned power plant. The yellow banner reads: "Herr Bürgermeister Meixner. Keine Dreckschleuder in Voitsberg. ", meaning: "Mr. Maire Meixner, no dirt sling in Voitsberg" and on the white sign you can see the words "Bezirk Voitsberg, Höchste Krebssterblichkeit!", in english: "County of Voitsberg, highest cancer mortality rate!". People are holding signs reading "Nein zu ÖDK 3"- "No to ÖDK 3" (the latter being the name of the plant). The coal power plant was shut down in 2006 because of lacking profitability. However, now the company „A-Tec Industries“ wants to re-activate it.Locations:Austria-Central Europe-VoitsbergDate:5 Nov, 2009Credit:© Greenpeace / Barbara TschannMaximum size:2544px X 1696pxKeywords:Actions and protests-Air pollution-Banners-Chimneys-Climate (campaign title)-Coal-Coal-fired power stations-Day-Government buildings-Greenpeace activists-KWCI (GPI)-Local population-Masks (protective)-Outdoors-Props-Smoke-Voitsberg Brown Coal PlantShoot:Protest Brown Coal Plant VoitsbergGreenpeace and local people protest against the plans to reactivate the coal power plant ÖDK 3 in Voitsberg. The coal power plant was shut down in 2006 because of lacking profitability. However, now the company „A-Tec Industries“ wants to re-activate it. There is a lot of resistance against it, also because Voitsberg and its environment suffered from bad air and fine dust pollution for many years during and after the active power plant. The power plant would make Austria’s CO2 emission rate go up by almost 2,5 tons yearly.
