ROV Lowered from MY Esperanza in Antarctica

A Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) is lowered into the water at Discovery Bay, off Greenwich Island, Antarctica. The Greenpeace team on board the MY Esperanza are using the ROV to look for signs of plastic pollution and anchor damage caused by fishing vessels, as well as documenting life on the ocean floor.

The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is on the final leg of the Protect the Oceans voyage from the Arctic to the Antarctic. The almost year-long voyage is one of Greenpeace’s biggest ever expeditions and highlights the many threats facing the oceans while campaigning for a Global Ocean Treaty covering all seas outside of national waters.
