Namie Town, Fukushima prefecture, Japan, 10 km north of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. This area was heavily damaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. In March 2017 the Japanese government opened this area of Namie for people to return to. As of December 2017 the population of Namie was 404, 2.1% of the population in March 2011. Greenpeace radiation surveys of this area in September 2017 showed that while some of the area has levels close to the government decontamination target (0.23 micro-sieverts per hour) there were many areas which were higher, including above 5 microsieverts per hour.
