Rainbow Warrior United for Climate Tour - Corfu, Greece
The Greek leg of the United for Climate ship tour finished with the Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior at the port of Corfu on the 21st and 22nd of June. The highlight of the stop in Corfu was the meeting of 13 local anti-oil drilling initiatives on the Rainbow Warrior who for the first time discussed together about common next steps and further joint action against the threat of oil drilling all over the country and the climate crisis we are facing. The common message after the meeting was that the anti-oil movement in Greece is growing stronger and it's part of the global climate movement. That was also the purpose of the tour in Greece: to support local communities that are affected by plans for hydrocarbon (HC) explorations, to strengthen local initiatives and help them unite under a national climate movement umbrella. The tour also used this opportunity to suggest real and sustainable energy solutions in the form of collective energy schemes, that promote clean energy and mass participation of the society according to the principles of energy democracy, through a solar networking event at Corfu, on the Rainbow Warrior.
