Rio Negro and Chubut Forest Fires, Argentina
In the last month, forest fires burned 30,000 hectares in Patagonia, in the provinces of Río Negro and Chubut (Argentina) There are many doubts as to whether the fires were intentional or accidental. High temperatures due to climate change, a severe drought, many exotic plantations (pine) and strong winds promoted the rapid spread of the fires. There are more than 500 houses affected, 2 people died, several evacuated and injured. Greenpeace demand: 1) more funds and infrastructure for fire fighting; 2) clearings and forest fires become criminal offenses; 3) restoration of burned forests.
