Rising River in India

The appearance of mangroves on the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata (Calcutta) is an indicator of the increased salinity of the water. Sea water has already come in to these shores and is a first warning sign of the danger of sea level rise here.

Climate Voices from India

Climate change is already affecting Indian residents living along the coastline.  In developing countries like India, climate change could represent an additional stress on ecological and socioeconomic systems that are already facing tremendous pressures. Along the coastline the economy is closely tied to its natural resource base, making India considerably vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
