SAVE THE FORESTS, ENGLISH VERSION, 2002
UK PRODUCED CINEMA ADVERT FOR THE FOREST CAMPAIGN CBD PUSH (CONVENTION BIODIVERSITY) 2002. The Save The Forests advert takes its cue from Klaus Töpfer of the United nations who has warned governments that "the clock is standing at one minute to midnight for the great apes. Some experts estimate that in as little as five to 10 years they will be extinct across most of their range". Ewan Mc Gregor ("Trainspotting", "Star Wars"), speaks as a gorilla voicing the threads faced by not just the great apes but all the plants, animals and people living in ancient forests whose home is threatened by destruction and illegal logging. The film opens with a human family played by Andy Serkis (""Lord of the Rings"") and Emma Fielding ("Private Lies") experiencing the terrifying destruction of their home by chainsaws and bulldozers. This opening scene is juxtaposed with real footage from relentless destruction of the great apes and other animals' homes in the ancient forests. A gorilla follows the timber plundered from the ancient forests to the consuming countries showing where it ends up. Sir David Attenborough (BBC documentalist) ends with a powerful call to the world governments to clean up the timber trade and ban illegally logged timber.
