Singapore Haze Pollution Hits an All-Time High

Thick smog blankets Singapore's skyline. The Pollutant Standards Index (PSI), Singapore's main index for air pollution, has hit record levels. These measurements are classified as "hazardous" and can aggravate respiratory ailments. Singapore wants 'strong, firm, effective' action against local companies that may be involved in illegal burning of forests and peat lands in Indonesia, which is contributing to the city-state's worst pollution on record. Greenpeace is calling on the Indonesian government to enforce forest protection and strengthen the forest moratorium. Corporations must also take responsibility for their supply chains, commit to zero deforestation and stop the sort of illegal practices such as fire clearing that are destroying forests and polluting the air.
