Radioactive Pollution Inspection in Niger
A Greenpeace team visited AREVA’s two uranium mines in Niger. AREVA is a French public multinational industrial conglomerate that is mainly known for nuclear power. During the visit Greenpeace found dangerous levels of radiation in the streets of Akokan and Arlit, mining cities located close to both mines. Following the inspection, Greenpeace has released the results of its survey to the authorities and companies involved, and called for an independent inspection, followed by a comprehensive clean-up to address the impacts of the French nuclear company’s activities in Niger.
