Spinner Dolphin at Tanon Strait in the Philippines

Spinner dolphins next to the Greenpeace ship Esperanza in the Tanon Strait between the provinces of Cebu and Negros Oriental. Dolphins face numerous threats such as fishing, chemical pollution and even land based pollution like plastics. The Tanon Strait is home to 11 out of the 24 species of cetaceans in the Philippines.

The Greenpeace ship MY Esperanza is in the Philippines for a three week journey starting in the Visayas and ending in Manila.  The ship, on her Philippine leg of the “Ocean Defenders Tour of South East Asia 2013”, will tell the story of the richness and the beauty of the Philippine seas, expose destruction that causes marine degradation and call for urgent government action to protect its rich biodiversity.
