The Distant Water Fisheries Fishermen Threnody in Taiwan - Dreamland Chapter - English SRT file
One of three short films made by an independent Taiwanese director, to highlight the problems and improper treatment faced by Distant Water Fishing workers. Several Indonesian actors were used as cast in Taiwan, and the script was developed and based on the data collected through field investigation, with the hope to reproduce the realistic situation of the fishermen and bring the message to the audience.
Taiwan's distant-water fishing generates over 40 billion NT dollars (14 billion USD) in revenue per year. About 22,550 migrant fishers work tirelessly for Taiwan at sea. Yet they are often exploited and physically abused. Safeguarding the rights of these workers is the responsibility of the Taiwan government and businesses. Let's urge the Taiwan government and businesses to take action.
