Toxic Mud Protest Bandung
Activists from Coalition Against Toxic Waste wear protective hazmat (hazardous materials handling) suits as they are carrying highly contaminated mud from Cikijing River during a protest in front of Gedung Sate, the City Hall building, in Bandung, West Java. Coalition Against Toxic Waste holds a protest in front of Gedung Sate, the City Hall building in Bandung West Java. They are carrying mud from Cikijing River that was highly contaminated by textile companies in the area. The action to urge West Java government to hold an investigation on this pollution case that is claimed 11 Triliun rupiah lost by using Total Economic Valuation approach. The law suit on wastewater discharge permit that was released by Sumedang Regency to PT Kahatex, PT Five Star and Insan Sandang Internusa in Sumedang, West Java is still an
ongoing process now. The three companies allegedly were discharging their waste to farms and river areas surrounding the neighbourhood for almost 20 years.
