Toxics Action Refonda Aluminium in Switzerland

Activists of Greenpeace Switzerland are blocking the Refonda aluminium plant, a subsidiary of Alusuisse, in Niederglatt near Zurich with dumped aluminium waste. Refonda exports aluminium slag for 'recycling' but the waste contains high concentrations of dioxins which cannot be recycled.

Juli 1991: Ein Banner mit der Forderung 'Giftmüllexport stoppen – Dioxinschleuder schliessen’ weht über dem Gelände der Refonda AG in Niederglatt / Zürich - einer Tochtergesellschaft der Alusuisse. Eine im Auftrag von Greenpeace durchgeführte Studie erbrachte hohe Konzentrationen an Dioxin und anderen hochtoxischen Schadstoffen. Greenpeace requests that the authorities finally cast their eyes and demand the shut-down of the company. Furthermore Greenpeace asks for a total ban of waste trades.
