Villagers and Greenpeace activists brought back "barrel No. 9" to its legal owner. The barrel contains 50 liters of spring water from the well Saint Fromant in Bonfol. Recent Greenpeace analysis show that pharmaceutical products from the Basel Chemical Industry such as the anti-depressant Tegretol or the sedative Sandoptal contaminate this spring. In original language:Chemie Aktion Abfall Fass Zuruck nach Novartis in Risch BuonasWir befinden uns im Jahre 2000 n. Chr. Locations:Bonfol-Europe, East Europe, Alpine Countries-SwitzerlandDate:30 Jun, 2000Credit:© Greenpeace / Ex-Press / David AdairMaximum size:2339px X 3336pxRestrictions:Images ok for use in all Greenpeace campaigns, products and brochures. Villagers and Greenpeace activists brought back "barrel No. 9" to its legal owner. The barrel was flown to lake Zug by a helicopter and delivered to Mr. Vasella in his garden. The same substances are also found in water from the Bonfol landfill. Detailed analysis will be presented by Greenpeace in a few days. The discovery of drugs, including those which may no longer be sold since 70 years ago like the Ciba-product Doriden, are a scandalous and alarming find. The offensive silence of the Basel Chemical Industry towards the worried people is an insult. The disinformation tactics of Novartis, Ciba and their PR agencies who tried just this week, to trivialize the dangers of the toxic dump site for the drinking water of the region, is unacceptable.
