As a result of this Sandoz-disaster, but especially as part of the 'normal' pollution conditions of the Rhine, Greenpeace takes action with the Rijn-acties (Rhine-actions) from 14 till 19 December in Rotterdam, Leverkusen and Basel. At the 19th of December the involved Ministers of Environment will discuss the problems of the Rhine. With the Greenpeace ship Sirius activists protest at the following chemical firms in the Rotterdam harbour: Cyanamid, Tiofine, DSM, Pennwalt and Shell. Greenpeace has chosen these firms, because they are responsible for the most chemical pollution. Activists hang signs at the discharge points showing where the harbour is polluted. The texts on the signs tell how much is discharged yearly by which firm. Greenpeace ends the action day at Shell by closing the oil port with a chain of red buoys. In this specific harbour are about 30 discharge points of Shell. The blockade lasts about one hour.
