Toxics Action at AKZO in Weert the Netherlands
Greenpeace protests against the continued production of the ozone destroying CFC's in the Netherlands. The action takes place at AKZO in Weert and concentrates on the only Dutch companies that still produce CFC's for export, besides AKZO it also concerns Du Pont in Dordrecht. At the gate of AKZO Greenpeace activists release a hot air balloon with the message 'AKZO/Du Pont stop ozonafbraak', which translates to English as 'AKZO/Du Pont stop ozone destruction'. They also hang a banner reading 'AKZO CFK-producent', which translates to English as 'AKZO CFC-producer'. The hot air balloon symbolises the huge amount of CFC's produced by AKZO and Du Pont, that will harm sooner or later the ozone layer. Greenpeace demands a ban on the production of CFC's.
