Due to his role, Josu knows the nearby factory farm since its planning phase. Josu met Greenpeace Spain at his home and shared his disappointment and frustration: “When the farm was about to be built, I regarded it positively, as bringing economic growth and new employment opportunities to our region. However, from what I know, the salaries can only be described as miserable, the workload is excessive and the working conditions are poor.” Also his brother Ritxi, a local horticulture farmer, struggles with the impacts of the factory farm.Locations:Caparroso-Europe-Navarre-SpainDate:20 Feb, 2019Credit:© Greenpeace / Wildlight / Selene MagnoliaMaximum size:5184px X 3888pxKeywords:Agriculture-Air pollution-Dairy farming-Factory Farming-Farmers-Houses-Indoors-KWCI (GPI)-Local population-Meat and Dairy (campaign title)-Men-One person-Sadness-Traditional farming-VictimsShoot:Dairy Factory Farm in SpainThe dairy factory farm operating under the name “Valle de Odieta, S.C.L./Corraliza el Tomillar, S.Coop. and Hibridación Termosolar Navarra, S.L.” is located in the province of Navarre, Spain. It is the biggest dairy farm in the whole rural area of Navarre and one of the biggest in Spain. In the last 50 years there was a huge transformation in livestock production in Spain, from a traditional and extensive production to a very intensive and industrial production. This has a huge environmental impact. The intensive livestock farming has changed the shape of the landscape and the flora in the nearby fields. Green algae is visible on the water effluents from the farm, probably due to the high nutrient content on the manure being disposed. This nutrient pollution is likely to reach the Aragón River.Related Collections:Factory Farms in Europe - Full SelectionFactory Farms in Europe - Tight Edit
