TransCanada Pipeline South Dakota Spill

A leak in the TransCanada pipeline near Amherst, South Dakota in Marshall County was detected November 16, 2017. The pipeline leaked 210,000 gallons of crude oil onto agricultural land, one of the largest on-shore oil spills in the U.S. since 2010. The pipeline moves oil from eastern Alberta, Canada to Oklahoma and Illinois. An investigation into the cause of the leak is ongoing.

Keystone Pipeline Spill in South Dakota

An estimated 210,000 gallons of oil leaked from the Keystone Pipeline in Marshall County, South Dakota, according to the pipeline's operator, TransCanada.
Crews shut down the pipeline and officials are investigating the cause of the leak. A federal agency says a leak in TransCanada Keystone oil pipeline in South Dakota likely was caused by damage during construction in 2008. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a corrective action report on the estimated 210,000-gallon oil spill. The report says a weight installed on the pipeline nearly a decade ago may have damaged the pipeline and coating.
