Tree Planting at Proposed Heathrow Runway
Actors, political party leaders, local residents and the Poet Laureate plant an apple orchard on the site of Heathrow's proposed third runway to show their opposition to expansion at the airport. The apple orchard, which is called 'Appleplot', is planted on a piece of land purchased by Greenpeace along with over 60,000 concerned citizens from around the world. The orchard makes a link between the past and the present of Heathrow. In the mid 1800's, Richard Cox bred the Cox's orange pippin just a mile from the airport, in one of the villages under threat from runway plans.
