He has been operating his drink stall at Tapak Pasar Tani Lama in Muar town centre. 'We had to wipe the dust from the smoke like every 5 minutes! Thats how terrible it was”. Aminuddin feels that the countries involved, Malaysia and Indonesia, should sit down and hire experts on how to replace the method of clearing up the land for commercial plantation as the open burning benefits only the companies but not the people. “I’m sure the Indonesians are also not happy when they are in the same situation as we are. I’m sure they want a solution as well.” He states that he understands why the burning happens, as it might be the cheapest and fastest way to clear up the land and make the land ready to use for agriculture, but it is not the best practice in the long term. “Maybe they should do it in stages by controlling the burning. Not just burn and let it stop by itself".Locations:Asia-Malaysia-Muar District-Southeast AsiaDate:3 Jun, 2014Credit:© Rahman Roslan / GreenpeaceMaximum size:2304px X 1536pxRestrictions:Please do not use without GPSEA's approval. Keywords:Air pollution-Climate (campaign title)-Forest fires-KWCI (GPI)-Local population-Night-People-Restaurants-VictimsShoot:Forest Fires & Haze - Human Impacts in MalaysiaPeople in Muar, Malaysia, talk about their experience with the extreme haze and air pollution caused by forest fires, occurred last year. They describe the air condition as 'disastrous' as it felt like 'living, eating and sleeping in a smoke chamber'.
