World Youth Day Activity on Vistula River in Poland
In the run-up to World Youth Day, from 25-31 July 2016 in Kraków Poland, Greenpeace activists from Poland, Germany, France and Croatia take to the Vistula river to express thanks for the environmental message in Pope Francis’s recent encyclical Laudato si’. A huge banner carried by activists in kayaks shows an image of the Pope next to his words: “Climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation.”
With the activity on the Vistula, environmentalists seek to highlight the fact that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not only important but also urgent. It cannot be done without energy transformation towards renewables, especially in Poland, where the vast majority of energy is produced from fossil fuels.
