The Wreck of Rainbow Warrior I in New Zealand
Underwater images of the wreck of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior off the coast of New Zealand, in Matauri Bay, Far North, Northland, where the ship lays in her final resting place 26 metres below the sea. The ship has become an artificial reef and houses many species of marine life. The Rainbow Warrior was bombed by French government agents just before midnight on 10 July 1985. She was preparing to sail to French Polynesia to protest against France's nuclear testing. Two explosions sunk the ship at Marsden wharf and killed Greenpeace photographer Fernando Pereira.
