1193 lights lit up in front of the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, in the shape of a giant tree. Each lantern represents 1000 people who made a submission to the EU Public Consultation on deforestation, calling for a strong EU law to keep products linked to forest and ecosystem destruction, or human rights abuses, off the EU market. Nearly 1.2 million people are asking this from the Commission. This is the largest number of submissions to a public consultation on the environment in the history of the EU.
